I am pleasantly surprised to see 1/3 of respondents answering Always - was afraid it'd be lower. And very glad if this fun discussion helps a few more add DAN tags, as well as perhaps get the message to any who don't have dive insurance that it really is needed, even if your Instructor didn't think so.....

Wow. That was certainly a judgemental way to phrase a question.
Yeah it was. I was in one of my moods.
I am sorry to pass this on, but something ziptied to your gear has a 95% chance of not making it to the hospital with you.
I hope that I'm not on a boat with idiots for crew, but you never know - just hope for the best.
Something on your person? Maybe 40% chance of making it there with you. And an EMS responder that is "DAN aware", and that will pay attention, will get the wheels moving in the right direction anyway.
Yeah, I do wear a dog tag under my Armor All T, and one would certainly hope that any EMS in a dive area would be minimally educated about DAN resources.
<shrugs> The brutal truth is you're reliant on the help of your buddy/friends/boat operator to communicate for you.
That's the part I don't want to bet my life own if I am unconscious - as I want to give them tools, at least.
All the best, James
You too!

They are just big and ugly. I don't wear a "911 tag" either, but I am sure someone would call. When they look for my ID, they will find the DAN info. If it's too late for that, then at least I will die looking good...or at least without the added ugliness of a Dan Tag.
Welcome to Scuba, a real sport - and sometimes people get injured or worse. Do you wear a helmet when your on your cycle?

I'm sure one of the colors will match your kit - try the Grey for DIR. ;)

Certainly can't fault you for wanting to stack as many odds into your favor as you can!

All the best, James

Although my first post was said tongue-n-cheek, I will still follow up.

Yes, indeed I do wear a helmet when riding. I also dive with a SMB, whistle, mirror, shears, knife, trained buddy and a host of other devices to help ensure safety. The Dan Tag does nothing to ensure safety and I do not think my treatment would be delayed by not having it immediately visible. That being said, I find nothing wrong with wearing it. Feel free to umm..Don it, Don. Really, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. I was just replying to your poll...and of course I had to offer my "excuse".

Thanks, good to heary you take safety seriously. Hope you never need treatment while unconscious. ;)

NorthWoodsDiver:
Dan should include these tags with the membership or at least a cheap alternative. I carry my card in my wallet but I will eventually do something else.

DAN SE Asia Pac do include a tag with renewal. On one side it has spaces to write your name, DAN #, birthdate, blood type, drug allergies, emergency contact name & phone #. The other side has a list of hotlines for the Asia Pac countries plus the 24-hour hotline at DAN USA.

so there i was today, horribly (sp) lost, doing a mid water safety stop with my snazzy new reel and smb, drifting towards the shipping channel, knowing i was at LEAST a mile from our exit (WHY didnt my buddy listen to me!!!!) and thinking that because i didnt have my DAN tag on (still havent found it) they might have trouble identifying the body :shakehead:

will make a big effort to find my tag today!

What is a DAN tag and why (if it is so important) do I not receive one with my annual membership? :D

Covered on page 1

Covered on page 1

I guess the question is WHY is it not part of membership?

$20 seems like they are using this is a profit making excerise, rather than service to their membership.
