Was scheduled on the Lois Ann in SD tomorrow Sunday at 7 AM. Had booked a room at Travelodge's "San Diego Near Seaworld" ($62) to arrive Saturday night.

Because the swell is so bad, the Lois Ann canceled the dive, but the hotel won't make any exception to their cancellation policy, won't give me a credit, let alone a refund.

Anyone knows of a hotel in SD that would be more understanding with divers?

Right in that pocket around the Sports Arena. Are you an Auto Club member? If so, pick up one of their California guidebooks and shop around. That is a bummer - was it a more than 24 hour cancellation requirement?

72 hour prior... But I just learn this morning that the dive was cancelled. I guess next time, I won't reserve a room there and will try my luck finding a room upon arrival. The control freak that I am doesn't like to do that.

I like to have things set up in advance, too. Between that area and Hotel Circle, there are a lot of rooms, though.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for next time. I may go to Catalina tonite or tomorrow morning, instead. Do you know if runoffs can affect Casino Point?

Arnaud,

As with business travel, when I can't cancel I often go anyway and become an accidental tourist. Exploring my also help your next dive trip. Perhaps you could interview different dive shops and check out boats?

That's not a bad idea, DP. Only problem is my (much) better (non diving) half. She already has a hard time letting me go on my own for diving, so if I'm not diving... Plus, it's pissing so much right now, I don't think I'm up for a 2 hour drive.

San Diego is a good place to play tourist, but maybe not in the rain. Arnaud, you might not find the same bacteria issues at Casino Point, but I'll bet the viz wouldn't be good.
DP, rain here is like snow in DC - everyone suddenly forgets how to drive.

It's going to be a dry one! Well, sort of. All plans are cancelled. Apparently, the Cat. Express may not even work...

It's the second time that I'm supposed to try a B/P and something comes up. Bad omen? Is this a sign I need to stick to my jacket BC?

I dove Casino Point a couple of days in the rain last November. Water was as clear as usual and needless to say there was not a lot of other divers.

We're supposed to go to Catlina tomorrow on the Island Time.... have not checked to see if it has been cancelled yet. I really don't know if I can make it another week without diving. ;-0
