Thanks Jax, the problem is she's...,she's......, well she's old, and she's still doing it.

But you know what....I think I let her do it.

I'm just not going to tell her.

Many thanks and happy new year!

YOU THINK YOU LET HER? :rofl3: :rofl3:

I don't even know you and I KNOW you let her. You're as big a softie as my husband. :shakehead:

Funny, tho -- my daughter was complaining about her dad still treating her 'like a baby', and I had to tell her "Even when you hand him his first grandchild, you will still be his baby girl. Deal with it."

Congrats on a fab relationship with your kids. And please keep the stories coming! You have a lovely way of looking at life.

Jax, I do not want to loose the meaning of this forum, but I would like to tell you a quick story.

I was walking with my son in a mall and I was holding his hand as we walked. All of a sudden he stopped......and looked at me.

At first I didn't catch on right away, but then I knew.............

He didn't want me to hold his hand anymore.

I can only speak for myself, I am no stranger to pain, but that was a pain that took a long time to get over.

Thanks,

Ohhh . . . sweetie . . . I can so sympathize . . . :hugs:

Even the pride that he's being a little man cannot assauge that.

I went with my son to all his dive classes.
Yes, it was scary to watch him jump into the pool the first time.
I was more nervous than he was!!
As my screen name tells it all, I can't swim.
So, that might have something to do with my anxiety while watching him.
Soon, however, I was enjoying watching swim around underwater like a fish.
As I was under there with him!
We took the class together.
I learned to "swim" and I was able to learn to do something I'd wanted to do for many years.
Yes, Mike Nelson introduced me to a TV world of scuba diving and some years later I learned to do scuba.

My son was 26 years old when we took the classes.
I was behind him when he did his cert dive and tugged on his fin when he was WAY off course when he was trying to watch his compass to get to the platform marker.
I did my cert dive 2 months before he did.
Now he worries about me when I go diving without him.

Your mom will always worry about you, no matter what do or how well you train.
If you think she is worried about scuba, tell her you want to skydive!!
I was 48 when I told my mom I did that.
My mom about p@@ped her pants, my dad was like "yeah"

Good luck and I hope you have many years of diving fun!!

:rofl3: Oh, my!!! (tears running out of my eyes) . . . :rofl4:

I'm sorry, I know this is the newcomers thread and we are all supposed to be kind and patient and compassionate . . . but, DUDE . .

Should a guy called "Can't Swim" be talking to a teenager with a nervous Mom!?!?!?!

I'm sorry. Really. The irony is just KILLING my funny bone!!

Welcome to the board, Can't swim! Delightful name . . . and since you sky-dive, it's a good thing you didn't pick "Can't dive" . . . . :rofl3: :rofl3:

Jax, you might have a point but, I had to tell the story.......
I was nervous when I watched my son take his classes but he was more nervous watching me!
My son learned to swim at an early age, like 8 or 9, my dad threw me into the ocean one time and I laid there like a rock. Dad had to come and pluck me out.
Now, I've seen the ocean from a totally different view and I LOVE it!!
I have only 4 years and I can take my grand daughter to her diving class.
I'm looking forward to the day I can take my granddaughter for her cert dive and then to Bonaire or some other exotic place to watch the fishes.

Aw, Can't swim . . . I was just kidding! Your story was perfectly on! :hugs:

And I really am sorry . . . when I get a giggle, it just kind of 'sticks'. I just envisioned Mom hearing "But Mom, "Can't swim" says . . . . " :rofl3:

You sound like a great dad . . . We have . . . 11 more years on one grandchild, and 13 years and two months on the other!!! ;)

Can't swim, you think that's bad?

People ask me if it was hard to learn how to swim.

I tell them not half as hard as cutting my way out of that burlap bag.

No harm, no foul....
I've tried to talk a lot of people into taking diving classes and going with me in the Shenandoah river to look around.
They tell me they can't swim, you should see their faces when I tell them I can't either but put fins, snorkel and mask on me and I'm like a fish. Or that when I tell them that I'm afraid of the water but I love being under the water.
Now, thanks to Jim at Action Scuba, I am comfortable in the water and I am waiting for the spring thaw so that the river is warm enough for a 5 mil suit.

Oh and good luck again to nwNemo

Nemo and Nemo’s mom welcome to the board!

Here is a little secret….if mom was not nervous she wouldn’t love you! She cares about you and your safety and wants to make sure nothing ever happens. If you listen to all the great advice from above you will make her a little more at ease with your safe sport!

Have fun and post your certification progress,
George
