I got certified at age 62 and have loved every minute beneath the surface! Welcome to the underwater world. Give yourself time; always equalize no matter how long it may take you; it does get easier.
 
You might find more employment as a DM on a liveaboard. As posted above you are more likely to find work as an instructor but if you are willing to risk it, I'd say go for it! Good luck and I wish you every success. You may find as I did that after DMing for a while you'll naturally want to continue your professional education. Even if you decide not to go pro enjoy your diving. I was 1st certified in 1968 and can tell you from years of experience that it is a sport that always gives you back more then you put into it.
