So you are asking for a filter so that any thread with the word god or religion in it does not show in your feed.

How would such a filter respond to a statement like "god damn that reg breaths well" or "the argument about the merits of jacket bcd vs bp/w is reaching religious proportions"

Both non religious scuba related discussions.

Life was a lot better when Savonarola was a moderator and could purify heretics with a literal dose of flames. None of useless and annoying CAPS flaming. There were a few problems - no one here remembers just how close the early proponents of nitrox came to an auto-da-fe. I'm sure that more than a few early uses of steel backplates met unfortunate ends.

Personally I still can't over seeing someone on a rebreather underwater with no exhaust bubbles waffling up to the surface like God intended. When I tried them in the '80's, it was in murky water so no temporal entities were witness to this. But in clear water, this device is clearly seen to be an invention of Satan. If this is not the devil's handiwork, then a simple examination in purifying flames could put this to rest - the gas in the O2 bottle would extinguish the flames.

And don't get me started on cloven-hoofed divers wearing those abominations referred to as "split fins". I'm just glad that neoprene hairshirts are out there to keep divers warm and on an even keel.

That's got to be the post of the year!!! Bravo!!!

Sweet baby Jesus on a rebreather!!!

I don't think I've noticed any particularly "religious" threads or posts on SB but I find ignoring such things on the internet, real life or on other media is a simple matter requiring no technological help.

Some of you guys are apparently unaware of the Worldwide Christian Scuba Diver Association subforum, though that's the only God specific forum I noticed. I only happened to hear about it when I noticed some post, but I don't use the New Posts button.

I'd agree that it should be easy to avoid that crap.

BTW, not believing in God doesn't automatically mean such people feel, or want to feel, superior to those that do. :)

I just kind of tripped over this eyeballing the post list and thought I would take a peek. As I read through this, the hair started to rise on the back of my neck. As I personally am not a believer, I don't have an axe to grind in that regard... However, there is a difference between your space and the "open" space. You get to control your space, not the other one. I firmly believe that people who travel trough life with blinders on know nothing about the trip. If there is something you see in the open space that you don't like, just stop looking. There is no justification for censorship. Most of us in these here United States take Constitutional directives which guarantee freedoms for thought, speech and actions very seriously. Only the liberal left feel they have to control the open space to avoid offending sensibilities and it is a constant battle to keep them minimized. One last thing - beware the pub, you just might get offended.

Despite being a member of the liberal left:wink:, I agree with OKByMe. Just don't read it. I found it objectionable as well. However, I made the decision to read the entire thread. I was free to "not read it," at any point. So were you. Part of life is preparing yourself to constantly be offended. Sometimes, you even learn something. Not that big of a deal, IMO.

Yep, that's the subforum that I stumbled over recently too. Unfortunately I do use the "all new posts" button quite extensively and also would rather prefer my search list not to be polluted with this kind of nonsense. I'll have to try the ignore list that knotical mentioned.

Not threads, but you can put members or forums on ignore.

To put individual members on ignore.
In turn, click on:
- their name on the left side of any post they made
- “View Profile”
- “Add to Ignore List” to the left, below their avatar

And if you read through this thread: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/how-use-scubaboard/382251-how-custom-forum-searches-exclusions.html
you can learn how to set up a bookmark to exclude certain forums, or to include only selected forums.

For example, when I log onto ScubaBoard, I use the following inclusionary shortcut: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew&include=2,4,5 ( ... and a bunch of other forums that I want included)

thank you, i do know how to put users on ignore
makes no sense though that you can subscribe to a thread but not ignore it

however, my suggestion/preference is to having such forum as a group, where only people with an invite or subscription get to see it, same goes for politics, and there are such closed groups on SB, why not one more?
there are many forums that will not even allow politics and religion because it a very touchy subject and invites unwanted behaviour

read it twice, still don't get the point you're trying to make

why should i stop looking? why is this kind of discussion going always one way? how about not showing me anything to look at?

correct wording is Ramen!

that is not what i asked, i want to block a subforum
i know vBulletin and i know there's lots of ways to make things disappear, including members...ever heard of Tachy Goes To Coventry?
i only wish it was available to users

Since I can't find anything else on SB related to religion, I assume this rant has been about a relatively new "non-geographic dive club" subforum with a whopping one thread in it...not exactly cluttering up anyone's new posts feed.

Still, not sure why one cannot opt out of seeing posts in any given subpart of the site. Though I question whether adding the functionality is worth even five minutes of anyone's time.

The usual counter-question is about how people would feel if instead it was an Islamic Divers Association, with posts proclaiming Allahu akbar.
