Hopefully the surgeon can give more specific advice about contradictions to diving. Like Akimbo I also think (from a non-medical observers perspective) it does seem plausible that the symptoms you experienced are were at least exacerbated by diving. Basically my naive understanding would be that intracranial pressure increases to ambient as you descend, but inflammation from weird neck angle + predispsion from CM could lead to hydrocephalus as cerebrospinal fluid is unable to return when you ascend to lower pressures. Basically a reverse block, but for the spinal column rather than your sinuses.
