My Aeris Pro (no longer made) doesn't give me my average depth; it only gives the maximum depth of the dive. Which computers display average depth?

Not many seem to have them but I'm really enjoying nitek duo after about 15 dives on it. Easy to read and very simple to program and use.

And it does show current, deepest and average depth

Here's another option to consider. I chose the Mares M1 rgbm because it implements "mostly real" RGBM with deep stops and uses AAA batteries. The down side is that you have to have powerful thumbs to activate the two buttons that select options. In water you usually don't have to select anything since the main page is pretty complete. It was about USD 250 from sportsextreme plus about USD 30 for UPS Express. The IRIS interface was another USD90 (I've posted on this before; short story it does work). A nice feature if you're night diving is that you can turn on the backlight permenantly. Since AAAs are cheap why not enjoy? RGBM is more 'conservative' in some multi-dive/day programs--but it is supposed to be. Read the posts by BRW and decide for youself.

Why should someone buy a wrist computer over a console or why should someone buy a console over a wrist computer???????

Wrist Mount:

a) Information is almost always instantly visable, no nead to search for the dangling console or unclip it to bring it up to look. From what I've seen divers tend to glance at a wrist mount much more often, versus hauling up the console to look at it.. (Better situational awareness)

b) Does not drag thru the sand or across the coral if you forget to clip it off..

c) Consoles tend to get "banged around" on the boat, beat against your tank, etc.. If my life/health is potentially depending on this electronic piece of gear, I don't want it smacked around..

Most wrist instrument users have standardized on having the computer on the right, with the compass on the left.. I'd recommend a Suunto SK-7 compass on the left wrist and a Suunto Vyper computer on your right.. Information is almost always a quick glance away...

I would choose an UWATEC bottom timer. They run about $175 to $200 depending on where you buy them. Your head, as Uncle Pug would say, can then be the computer for you.
