Scotty:
I am having a tough time figuring out what to do. TOO many choices and opinions. Where is the best place to get a good deal but also a warranty for these things. Thanks.

Aeris allows on line sales through authorized dealers, while Suunto does not. So depending on the brand you are looking for, you will have to hit a LDS if you want warranty - or make sure it's an autorized on line dealer. The Aeris Atmos 2 Wrist Computer for $268 is actually an authorized sale by Aeris. They offered us some very special pricing in order to move a lot of computers this spring - and this sale will continue for another few weeks, then back up to $100 more... So if thinking of the Aeris... Don't wait too long!

Does anyone know how the Aeris Atmos 2 compares to others. It is a testers choice I have seen but I have not found where it tells the pros and cons and any comparison charts. What is anyones take on this??? thanks

I have the Aeris 2 console with the quick disconnect and knife. I think its a fantastic computer. Its incredibly intuitive to use. I read the manual when I first purchased it and have only had to pull it out once since then - when I bought the download cable. Its a liberal algorithm which will increase your bottom time. I don't know why people buy Suuntos. You might as well dive your tables. :11:

The cons: ..... hmmmm. Can't think of a single one.

Scotty -

I have an Aeris Atmos AI and love it. It's a bit out of your price range, but i've heard a lot of positive feedback on the Atmos 2. I also have a friend who dives it and he really likes it.

As for scubatoys.com, Larry is a pleasure to do business with and that is a great price.

Why should someone buy a wrist computer over a console or why should someone buy a console over a wrist computer???????

I prefer wrist mount:
- my arm has got a better range of movement than the HP whip on my reg, so it's easier to get my computer close to my mask, or my buddy's if I'm trying to show him something.
-It's simple to take off the computer and carry it with me during surface intervals or to log/download data
- I find it easier to look at a wrist mount during ascents to refer to my ascent rate indicator
- I don't like having a big console for streamlining reasons

Some reasons people like console mount are:
- computer stays attached to the reg, making it harder to lose
- air integrated console-mounted computers are a lot cheaper than wrist-mounted air integrated computers (no need for wireless transmitters)
- Don't have as much stuff on your wrists

Well, I just bought a pair of Apeks Quantums (Dive Rite Nitek Duo), so I guess that's my vote. Dived them at the weekend, and they're perfect for me. Easy to read, easy to operate, two gas mixes for when I use Nitrox or do deco.

Cost £165 each plus shipping.

Starting out and wanting the latest gadget would put my vote in for the uwatec line of air integrated units. They are easy to use, The Nitrox Pro version (Obtainable on e-bay for under 200$) will run nitrox fopr you very conservatively but if you're really into diving and want to evolve intot he next level of educated diver, go with a bottom timer and a good watch. Use a quality tested and "cutting edge" software like V-Planner and then decide for yourself how deep you're going and how long you're staying and stick with the plan, you'll dive better and be more educated than looking at a fancy depth gauge and tank watcher.
just my humble opinion on a very contraversial subject.

you often don't know which locations you are going to dive before (and even after in many cases) you get on the boat. So for most people going on vacation - the BT is not the best option.

I would like to add one more thing in the list:
- I might go to a dive vacation with rental reg, and bring only my dive comp.
