I think the Jets would work better for most of the things I'd need to do as a DM (like towing a tired diver). I can move a lot of mass with them, and I can swim forever . . . I just can't swim FAST.

Just now what kind of "Jets" are we reffering to?? Jets, Twin Jets, Twin jet max's??

I would say that there is allways a choice "right gear for the dive". Giving up my jets for the free dive fins fell into that category. Had I continued to "herd cats" my gear would have reflected that mission and I would have allways dove with the free diving fins as the cats can get pretty squirrely and needed to be hearded quickly and from great distances. Not be reflective of my gear intensive efforts of late.

Concur...use the right tool for the job at hand. I have a pair of Mares Quattro Excel (wetsuit diving) and a pair of jetfins (adjusted for my rock boots)that I use exclusively with my drysuit. ...Guess which one I used...lol. I will also venture that most people using jetfins are not using them to cover great distances but rather for their practicality and the control they provide in certain diving environments. Heck...some of those folks even use scooters to get them to their dive site...lol

I maintain that the answer to everything is frogkicking. I keep thinking about replacing my Avantis with Jets, but I guess I just don't have a big enough need yet. One day.

Avantis frog kick just fine. I don't have Jets to compare them to but they are equal to, if not better than, my IST Jetfin clones.

To clarify I mean Jet fins (black Paddles; made in the 60's)
not max jets or split jets.
Also this is just to test into the class, not pass it. That'll come in 20 weeks time =]

I just got them about a month ago and have only used it for 5 pool sessions and around 8 dives. So I'm still getting use to them.
I find myself not flutter kicking as much when I'm doing dives.

The blade fins I'll be using today are the fins I've used since my basic certification.
Given that I was only 30 seconds off, I'm going to use my blade fins to eat up the extra 30 seconds.
The main reason I switched to jets was because they allowed me to have fast-short bursts of speed, which I felt I needed.
My old fins didn't allow me to break from the surf zone and back into the beach, I was relying completely on the waves to push me in.

I agree that I should use the equipment I primarily use. But given certain condition or purpose of diving, I do plan on changing my fins.

Also I think my friend stretched out my spring straps, which already were on the cusp of loose.
(size 8, he was size 11 =-=*)
I'm still looking for the right type of springs that'll fit me.
Currently I'm 11in post to post and the smallest size I've seen is 11 3/4in springs.

If I need to do a lot of long distance swimming with a low chance of needed mobility, I'll wear my blade fins. If I need mobility, I'll choose my Jet fins.

But maybe with more time I'll be able to beat the 18min mark with my jets :D

I think you should do a timed 800 yards/meters snorkel, frogkicking the entire way, and tell us what your time is...:rofl3:

He actually did. :rofl3:

That time though the cut-off mark was 20min.
He beat it with plenty of time to spare, if memory serves me correct

900yds in 14:10. I did the last few laps flutter though because I was trying to beat Liam.

Now for the folks that did your 900yd in a pool do you do push offs at each end??? I am doing my training in a lake which brings the question.

I hate you.
I got 18:40 this time. Third retest is on Thursday. I'll try frog kicks from the start this time.
On the plus side I beat the other guy retesting this time =D

And LakeCountry Diver, yes we do this in the pool, but pushing off the wall really doesn't get you anywhere. At least I have yet to figure out a technique to turn and move into a streamline effectively with fins.
