If you could do it over again, what combination of Nikon camera, lenses and aluminum housing would you get?

It's taken me years to decide to get an SLR, I'm still having trouble picking out a Nikon and aluminum housing (for macro work) that won't require a second mortgage. I'm finally prepared to drop $5K-$6K but not $10K.

Help point me at a narrower range of options.....!

Current set-up
Sea & Sea DX-8000G
2 x Inon Z240 strobes
4 x 8-inch Ultralight arms

Thanks,
Overwhelmed

I would definitely goe for a housing with optical fiber connection to take full advantage of the Inon Z-240, also with the upcoming Nikon D7000, there will be a pretty good selection of housing available. I won't comment on housing choice as it would be quite improper due to my obvious bias:D

I had to sacrifice the almn housing due to cost and have settled for the Ikelite. Glad to be shooting DSLR. Using 105 Macro and 12-24 wide angle.

Thinking of a 10.5 or possible a mid range lens between the wide angle and the macro for fish shots.

Ikelite Strobes but had them from my Olympus 8080 setup.

Wish I had gone DSLR sooner.

Hope this helps

Well here is what I am Going to do....

D7000
D7000 Aquatica Housing, have had the D100 & D200 housings and think Aquatica just is a great product and exceptional value
Tokina 10-17mm
Sigma 17-70mm HSM
Nikon 60mm
Nikon 105mm
Variety of StiX strobe arms
Keeping eye out at all the new lenses coming out
Currently Own 2xInon D2000s and 2xSubtronic Nova. Not sure what I am going to do here but will probably sell the D2000s and go with something else.
Need to find two good LED lights for shooting video

Biased opinions are fine. I am actually looking at Aquatica housings.

I would jump straight into the D7000 when its released. Gives you time to save towards everything else which you have to add to it like ports domes, arms, strobes etc etc.

Nikon 60mm = I love it for my marco.

Nauticam and Aquatica I like, but I like the Aquatica more.

I really like the Nauticam viewfinder especially with the 60mm. I thinkn the Nauticam VF has better eye relief than the Aquatica VF. Thats another thing I wouldnt go without is a Viewfinder!....simply awesome for macro!

Regards Mark

I don't know if it was your intention to reply inclusive of the D300s when you mention jumping straight into the D7000 when it's released, but that is a downgrade to the D300s.

Thanks everyone for your valuable input.

I've got a new Nikon and housing heading my way. :D
