Thought this might be useful info as it's something I've recently discovered.
Tidying up the face plates comes at a cost, I put wax/mink oil on them after polishing, you might find after a few dives the face plate might become "less" black, but if you put clear shoe wax/oil with a rag it'll blacken up again, you don't need much.
Hope that doesn't bum anyone out.
