It's winter in Australia and a couple of mates have suggested we look at giving ice-diving a go.

A quick web search has provided most of the information we need to assess whether we go or no-go, but I was hoping Scuba Boarders might chip in with their own advice/thoughts, comments and more web links....

Interestingly, I typed in "ice" in the search engine on SB and got zero hits. We know you yanks don't have decent beer over there, but surely you must have ice and snow!? :crafty:
cheers

[and yes, doing an ice-diving course is a good idea]

I think the minimum length of indexed words had something to do with your lack of results (try searching for the infamous HUB). Must be horrible suffering through those Australian winters.

The most that I know about ice diving or ice fishing is that I will sit in the car and keep the hot chocolate warm for you.........

Start with THIS thread.

A search has to be at least 4 letters long. That is one reason why we get a few HUB questions.

Ice diving...got to try it at least once.

Come up with us Canucks - we have better beer anyway.

Thanks for the advice to date, keep it coming.

And fortuantly "PADI" is just 4 letters long....

1. Take ice screws. Screw them into the ice at least 20' away from the edge of the hole.

2. Make sure the free end of your tether is clipped off to them before you jump through the hole.

It could be annoying when you're following your tether back to the hole and find the free end just sort of floating there midwater somewhere because your tender got careless and dropped it.

Yeah, a course would be a good idea, eh?

Tether...whats that

Searching for something with three letters? Just put a wildcard '*' after it.

ice* diving where

Why don't those DIR* folks wear the HUB* and Spare Air*?

I plan to go ice diving in Lake Baikal this winter - but its probably a bit out of your way and the local brew is vodka, not beer....

Cheers,
Rohan.
