The people who comes to the north, work their a$$ off, frequently as slaves, frequently get nowhere. If they do eventually move out of indentured servitude though multiple generations, the mostly likely place in society they will reside is as wage slaves.

I know there are classism in all places, but they are usually isolated to different places. You could have the fat cats spending their summers in the French Riviera, but rarely have seen the separating of classes openly visible in the same resort. I don't see VIP class on the dive boats.

So you are ok with different classes, as long as the patricians don't visit your bunk in steerage? Are you posting from a tent on Wall Street?

LOL-we've gone from the "elite" rooms at the OG to a tent on wall street.....interesting.

I'm in NYC. A tent on Wall Street will cost you more than a suite at the OG. Forget an apartment.

So we have fat cats and we have canaries.

They both were born naked and with nothing, they both went to work and were given a dollar each for their toils.

The fat cat spent 75 cents of his dollar and saved the other 10 cents and invested the other 15 cents. The canaries immedieately went out and spent their dollar and borrowed another dollar and spent that too. (guess who had the dollar to lend to the canary?)

As time went by the fat cats asked for extra shifts to work to make more dollars, worked harder and harder, while canaries laughed at the fat cats as they played in the sun, rolled around in the tall grass and celebrated being free canaries not burdened by the shackles of work like those silly fat cats, after all there was the government who would take care of them all, why worry about any thing.

Eventually the fat cats looked around at all those silly canaries and decided to eat them. After all they were easy prey, they spent their time on facebook, watching Jerry Springer or Oprah.

The canaries looked around too, and realized the fat cats were getting fatter and times were getting leaner for the canaries, it seemed like after awhile all the canaries bosses were fat cats who now owned the businesses the canaries worked at...

I could go on, but the story ends with the canaries living in tents on wall street now protesting the fat cats who were born naked and with nothing just like they were.

Ah Mike another Ayn Rand groupie. Everything is black and white and grey does not exist yet most all the living and dying and what it means to be human exists in the grey area of life. Those on either end of the spectrum know nothing of what it means to walk in thier shoes.

I was once like you in that I believed with hard work common sense and perseverance nothing could stand in my way and anyone not of like mind was a whiner. Then the fickle finger of fate gave us a child with severe disabilities and whenever I tried to advocate for my child I was painted to be much like the tent dwellers you skewer. I agree that hard work, common sense and perseverance are a great and noble way to lead yourblife but chance and luck have as much to do with it as anything.

Lwang -- people with money don't upgrade at the Allegro or Grand, they go to the Royal Hideway. :)

And people who don't have money to spare don't take dive vacations staying at one of the more expensive resorts.

I'm not without feelings and empathy for my fellow man. Luck can reach out and change your life, however it effects a tiny percentage of us, changing or limiting our ability to effect ourselves. An example like you gave can surely effect anyone, but it's a miniscule statistical percentage and what's the excuse of those not effected by something like your example?

It's unfortunate for anyone to have something effect them that they have no control of and it can change their lives in a dramatic way, however the vast majority of the population is free from those burdens, their only limitations are self-imposed.

Remember they are the ninty-nine percenters not the one percenters, they are in the statistical majority, so what's their excuse?
