Yes it can be done but it doesn't have to be a shop, it could also be a reputable independent instructor. I'm not familiar with that area but I'll betcha we have some great instructors around those parts. ;)

Tom Johnson of Dayo Scuba is the best diver and instructor in Orlando. He is the only one good enough to make a full-time living teaching scuba. We call him TJ. He does PADI. When you learn with TJ, he provides all gear. Right down to the booties. You don't buy or rent anything. He taught my daughter, and went out of his way to fit her into a class after a NAUI instructor abandoned her class.

You can tell him Stu and Ellen sent you.

TJ is good, so is LouMa (on this board) who is a NAUI instructor for Gander Mountain and Phil from Wet-N-Fla who is NAUI and SSI. I would let any of these three teach my kids (and I do love them :D )

Ever give an early Christmas gift? The diving conditions are favorable all around this state. If things remain hurricane-free, there will be plenty of good diving through the end of the year. Two good diving days are December 23 and 24. Get out of the shopping crush and into the water!

This is the fun part of the diving year and the time to get started is now.

I know Louma personally and can attest to his interest in students and concern for diver safety. If you want to drive a little ways, Blue water Scuba in Daytona to the best I know of anywhere and he specializes in private lessons.

Another vote for TJ at Dayo Scuba. We completed a class with him in March, he's good.

Tom Johnson is a good friend of mine. I took my class with him 4 yrs ago along with my bro-in-law. Since then Tom has cert-ed my son, my nephew, two of my buddies and thier wives and thier kids as well. He gets my vote EVERYTIME!

I was really tired when I typed this message the name of the training site is "Blue Water Diving" :11doh:Sorry about the error.

I'll vote for TJ at Dayo Scuba (dayoscuba.com) as the best in town. He provides all the gear needed and is independent so he won't push certain brands of gear on you that you don't need. He also takes Paypal so that would be easy for them to send him the payment for a gift certificate.
