Sponsoring a paddlefish was an amazing opportunity that I am so thankful I took a part in.
I can now honestly say I have kissed a paddlefish! :kiss2: (That picture is not on this video)

Here is a video of the paddlefish that were released on April 30, 2011.

Blue Springs has Paddlefish - Video inside

I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed participating in the event.

PS~ For those interested...the next IDC meeting will be held on Thursday, May 19th @ 6:30 at Squeelers on 86th st. Let me know if you are interested in joining us at the meeting!?!?!?

Greetings Jenny very cool pics and I am sorry that I missed the event.
I would love to try to make it to the meeting of the IDC on the 19th but will have to see what my work schedule is.
If I can work around I will be in touch.
Hope all is well and keep up the great work!

Very exciting things going on at Blue Springs, especially for me since it's only 30 minutes from my home!

Thanks for posting this Jenny.

Mike at Gilboa needs to do this. I wanna see more paddlefish there! I know he has a couple in the quarry, but I have yet to see them.

I agree completely. It would be a great addition to Gilboa.

I have never seen the current paddlefish there either.

But should you kiss and tell?

was at Blue Springs this weekend; the land improvemnts are numerous and effective; with all the rain we have received in Indiana viz was single digits; with sun, a few dry days, and some heat, that will change. William is doing a bang up job and the paddlefish are being added incrementally so that will be good and he is also going to release some other critter as well to keep some of the plant life under control. If we can get the viz back to the old 30' expectations like before it will be a great place!

Great stuff Jenny.

Before the pic on Facebook I had never heard of paddle fish, let alone seen one.

What's the story? Are you guys stocking lakes with them? Endangered/threatened?

Hobster~I am excited with all the changes too. I look forward to making another dive there soon.

Thanks! It was fun. It took me a second to figure out who 'splitlip' was tho I don't think I have seen your page on here before :)
As for stocking them and such... Paddlefish are simply AMAZING to see while diving! I guess you could say they are the 'sharks' of the freshwater, everyone gets excited when they see them. So many of the local places put these filter feeders in the quarries. They are targeted by poachers for their roe and seeing how they need moving water to breed doesn't help. So any of them that you see in a quarry will not be able to reproduce there...but as someone pointed out to me they may not be able to breed while in a quarry, but they were saved and not killed for their caviar either
