I hope you're on the mend.....it's tough to get hurt on vacation, I know.

I broke my ankle on a liveaboard trip once. Made it to a Canadian hospital on a Friday and they couldn't fix me up for 4 days as there wouldn't be an ortho in till Tuesday. (Nationalized healthcare anyone???) I came home instead and got fixed up rightaway.

Anyway, when you get home, you might want to have a hand specialist take a look and make sure everything is mending properly. Peace of mind.
thanks lori...thhat sounds brutal. my surgeon told me yesterday he did surgery on a 70y.o. woman who fell riding a scooter. she badly broke both legs and shattered one of her knees in a million pieces. he aked her why she was riding...she answered well i have never ridden a scotter before and wanted to try it...she is from oklahoma.

Ouch!!! I'm really sorry about your accident. BTW, I've been enjoying your updates every day. I hope you continue updating us on your adventures in Playa del Carmen.

Wow, that is terrible. Come on back to Colorado where flip flops don't try to kill you. I knew there was a reason I hate wearing those things. Look at the bright side though...a lot of people go down there just to hang out on the beach, drink marg's, try lots of local restaurants, shop etc. Now, you have been forced to branch out from the scuba experience and find some of the other fun things to do down there. Go sailing, try an ATV on for size, horseback, zip lines...anything that doesn't involve flip flops.

I hope your hand doesn't bother you much. Raining like mad here the last few days. Tornado warnings (got some great video and pics of the tornado that missed us by half a mile 10 days or so ago). The hail it brought with it did a ton of damage though. :depressed: The bright side? You are on an island in the Caribbean and missed all of it. See...life is good eh?

I'm seriously considering diving Aurora Reservoir tomorrow...that should tell you how much I need some nitrogen. :) Might take a solo coz run in a couple weeks or so though....unless work prohibits. Going to give SCC a shot this time I'm thinking. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

speaking of nitrogen someone was in the chamber when i was there. i could see it and hear it sounds just like someone breathing on a respirator with ocean noises

I had a bad cut on a finger and carried on diving by wearing a latex glove, with elastic around the wrist to keep water out.

Well then, someone was definitely having a worse day than you.

It's not so bad, having a bad day....it's knowing that someone else's days is better that really hurts. I'll bet the chamber person was lying in there complaining that all you hurt was your finger. I'm going to share an ancient family secret with you here, so don't tell anyone else. But after injuring his finger fighting off 78 japanese soldiers on Iwo Jima, my grandfater learned that the pain is significantly reduced if you use ice...not applied to the skin like a barbarian of course, rather put it in a glass, add some fresh lime juice, mix in 100% agave....and imbibe. Shhh...ancient family secret there. I've taught a few places down in Mexico about it, but they promised to keep the secret. Try Wet Wendy's. ;)

Add a cabana boy and Mary just may forget about the pain altogether. ;) :D

Ouch! Man, that really sucks. Not surprising though that you fell on the uneven concrete, we chuckle about how poorly finished the sidewalks are once you get beyond Punta Langosta going south towards El Cantil. It's obvious that the lawyers haven't gotten inroads into holding the government or landowners responsible for injuries like yours. Back in the states you may have fallen onto a pile of business cards from personal injury lawyers that noticed you slipping.

Your attitude is great! Good luck for a full recovery.

Alohagal-so sorry to hear about your injury! I have had several near misses with flipflops so now I have gone solo with tennis shoes only. I am getting too old to risk a flipflop event! I also have enjoyed your vacation updates- please let us know what you do on the mainland- maybe a trip to Tulum?
