Like any language? Yeah. Interpreting hand signals underwater for a new diver is like trying to read the instructions on defusing the nuclear terror weapon in the middle of Manhattan while using your twenty-year-old high school Japanese. A word gets through here and there, but you suffer the conviction that a major disaster is headed your way while you try to get the parts that aren't so easy. :)

When I told my Bro(DivesWithTurtles) about it he was kinda surprised. Not just signals but whole sentences. Try to signal : Watch me, I'm out of air and I want to see where your octopus is" all in one flowing sentence. Octopus? Saw one snorkling down at TheCaves once a few years ago.
