What's the adage about never teach a pig to sing- it wastes your time and annoys the pig. Please don't give up cooking- come on over and cook with us anytime! Don't think of roomie's non-conversion as a failure: it's a blessing in disguise. Now you know that all you need to do in order to cook for him is to leave out a bag of chips and some aerosol cheese.

It does open up a potential sub-thread: what has caused the demise of your roommate relationships. I knew my roommate days were over when the guy, who was otherwise normal, turned out to be such a neat-nick that he suggested that I clean out the toaster and microwave after each use. Things started to decline when I suggested this would not occur during his lifetime.

NetDoc once bubbled...
capitalize the first A in tAbasco???
when fixing prior problems, of course you do.. for emphasis, clarity, brevity and wit...

I'd also keep the roomie, unless he has other problems like neatness or something. Hey...he's cheap and easy to feed! You can't say that about some dogs! Any of us here will let you cook for us anytime! And I don't use tabasco OR A-1!!!

your roommate does not sound like a complete loss - at least he is willing to try these things. The images brought on by the vienna sausage comment were pretty nasty, though. Yuk. :D

You may be on your way to educating your roommate's palate but just not know it yet - it just takes some time to move beyond what's been the "norm" and comfortable for him.

Living in Hawaii, we've got tons of stuff that is everyday for us, but is just "nasty" for most visitors. I went through serious cravings for sashimi (just the raw fish, with rice it becomes sushi) when I lived in Texas.

Keep it up - and by the way - give me your address so I can stop by the next time you make eggs benedict - one of my favorites!! :)

I feel your pain. Been there done that with my non cooking wife. She's content with the Vienna sauages and chips. I really enjoy making pastries from scratch and she's content with any old frozen day old stuff from a grocery store "bakery";-0

Keep the cookware--sell the roommate and keep up the cooking skills. Some day when we get this Neptune diver bunch together we may need your skills!!
