It depends on the situation. Making this a blanket "it's dumb" is, indeed, dumb. This bears repeating...

Nah man, it’s actually dumb. Always. It depends on the situation. Making this a blanket "it's dumb" is, indeed, dumb.
Are you speaking of it being dumb while in caves? or anywhere?Nah man, it’s actually dumb. Always.

If in caves, isn't the "dumb" issue the single, not the thirds?
I'm trying to understand the context for your blanket prohibition...
OK, understood that the context is caves, and singles is the primary issue, not thirds. Thirds just makes it worse.Cavern/Intro level divers need MORE gas than anyone else for a problem yet they were (in programs allowing singles at these levels) allowed to dive thirds = dumb
Diving in an overhead without a wholly redundant gas supply = dumb again (an H valve doesn't count as wholly redundant)
Both of these notions should be dumped in the trash heap of "bad practices of the past"
I absolutely agree for Intro and above. Is there an agency that allows singles for Intro?
Well, to quote an earlier post, that's just dumb.Following-up: PSAI seems to imply you can dive a single tank, stating that gas management is thirds but sixths if you're diving doubles. So that's two, at least.
