I didn't pay much attention to the airfare threads till I noticed

No thanks.. I refuse to even pass through the airport on my way to Bonaire.. I have paid $125 extra round trip just to go straight to Bonaire..

Jim..

I was hoping for a trip in April but at 1200 Delta out of Greensboro it looks like Cozumel instead. I have been checking daily for weeks now and the price doesn't budge.

It's all about watching the flights and being able to do different days / weeks

Jim...

You can watch all you want but you still won't find reasonable fares competitive with comparable dive destinations. As far Bon and CUR airports, not sure what you experienced (sounds like the transfer for connecting flights was the issue) but my experience with CUR is that is a bigger and better airport than BON. At least the old BON airport. Haven't seen the new yet. I have not had to line up on the tarmack in CUR like BON to get through immigration and baggage in CUR has AC. Not so much in BON. But hey you like what you like. No problem there. Let me know if you find BON air around $400.

The St. Louis to Bonaire route has always been pricey. By changing dates to Sun -Sun versus Sat. to Sat, it was about 40% less(but still expensive!). I am hopeful that when AA starts servicing the island perhaps some old school competition will drive prices downward. With Curacao as an equally appealing option for diving, I will skip Bonaire entirely next time to avoid the gouge. They are pricing themselves out of the market with the American tourists.

Yep, flight from lit to bon costs more than lit to Jakarta (29 plus hours), makes no sense

I am not bashing Bon, just disappointed about the fares. When we first went in 2009 the fare was $370 from NYC nonstop with great times. I remember saying after the trip we could do this every year or so. At $700-$1500 not so much.

Well, I've been going with my wife twice a year for stays of 2weeks to 9weeks last trip.. In the big picture of my life.. A couple of hundred dollars for a trip is not a deal breaker... $20 bucks a day? $30 bucks? I'm heading to Bonaire for 5 week's end of March.. I'll drink a Brite for you...

Jim..

It's not just about shore diving.. It's the whole vibe of Bonaire letting you do as you please...
Except fly my drone! :(

Except fly my drone! :(
That is annoying. I have some great footage from Roatan and no people, planes or birds were harmed in the process. My Phantom stays home when I go to Bonaire. I have seen some great videos with drone footage of Bonaire so I know they were either early or illegal. I don't condone illegal or irresponsible flight but there some lovely parts of the island that you could fly safely. I would be surprised if some Sparks, or Mavic Airs don't start showing up there. Their owners may be surprised by what a 20 knot off shore wind does to their little drones though.
