After two years of hearing about it, I finally got certified in January in time to catch the end of lobster season on a late February 2 day trip.
What a rush. Better than any description ever promised. The greatest feeling in the world is flying at 20, 40 or 70 feet. Got skunked on the lobster boat, but not because of lack of effort. Had two in my hands, but was unable to transfer them to the bag. Scallops are much easier to track down, and the wife likes them better actually! Best moment of the trip was on the first dive of day 2, 7am so the bugs were still out somewhat. I am cruising along about 10 feet above bottom when I see one walking, all alone. I get set, take a good breath, position myself and lunge. And then turn 90 degrees left while the lobster scoots off to the right. It seems I had kicked off my fin. Whoops!
I looked back, and there is my brother, holding my fin, laughing his regulator off. Took a good 5 minutes to calm down and get reset. In spite of 8 foot seas and 35 knot winds I wouldn't trade it for the world.
15 ocean dives so far, another 10 scheduled in the next 10 weeks. Great people, great times, and luckiest of all, the Channel Islands are a day trip.
Personal Info: Andrew, 32, Los Angeles, CA
