I am an idiot; best way to depressurize first stage with no hoses attached?

I always thought this would be a great way to prank your dive buddies the night before a dive...

While I love a good prank, I wouldn't do anything that causes unnecessary wear on expensive equipment! ;)

OK, it's out. I don't think I've ever been so gingerly in my life (except when holding babies). I even referenced another regulator to see how much thread I had left like I was disarming a bomb, and then finally, psst, nothing, less than a tiny queef (sp). I still have the use of my hands and a roof over my head. It really is hillarious. It might be a good prank, depends on the prankee. Thanks for all the help with my dire and treacherous situation.:rofl3:

Yeah...that's ONE of the reasons why I wouldn't do it. But it would be kind of funny to watch the expressions on their face as they wake up to find all their stage, deco bottles and doubles with blank 1st stages on them pressurized to 3000 PSI. It would be funny, but I'm a big believer in the "Do Unto Others" mantra. :D

Can't argue safety. Glad to hear everything turned out ok. Remember, that o-ring may have been extruded/deformed from the experience.
