I have a good idea along the same lines. How about a week long intro to GUE/ indoctrination. Nothing that is pass fail, just an opportunity for new people to be fully immersed and ave time to execute new gear and skills prior to hitting the fundies trail?
Eric
These have been held on the West Coast (at least a few times). Mostly just "DIR" divers though. Honestly, just take the class. You aren't going to learn the currently "correct" way of doing things from being on vacation with a bunch of GUE divers. Those of us who have been diving this way for years have our own ways of doing things which may or may not be to "specifications" for GUE-F. Some of them probably were current when we took Fundies/Tech1/Cave1 etc. Some are things we just do "differently" because it works for us and our buddies. Are they dealbreakers for most divers in real life? Probably not. Could they be considered a "bad habit" by your GUE-F instrutor, possibly.
You really don't need to "prepare" for GUE-F. Have a bunch of dives in your configuration, try to get your weighting right at 4-500psi (no gas in wing), try to be still in the water whenever possible. The rest will come in class or afterwards.
