fortunately the deer stepped out onto the road several meters ahead of me so I was able to hit the brakes and the horn and avoid a nasty collision! She bolted right across after I hit the horn.
Another fortunate thing is that I was going the speed limit although the guy on my butt wasn't too happy about that. However, if I had been speeding, this posting would have read a lot differently!

Cobaltbabe, how the car running these days?

I had to look twice at that one. Glad your safe diverlady. I almost hit another one last night. I am being way more careful now.

My car is fine. I thought all the deer would be hiding since it is hunting season. Silly animals. They are beautiful though. :)

Unfortunately the rut is on so they're running all over the place right now. I was barely out of town when I saw her. At least I think it was a "her". There was no rack although it could have been a button buck. Hard to tell in the dark and when it happened that fast. It made me feel kind of bad that urban sprawl has us interfering with their natural habitat.

Deer feed at night when they can see, so first quarter to third quarter moons are bad for nighttime deer. No moon and they tend to bed down.

IOW be especially careful if the moon is up.

Good reaction time Diverlady.

I did rural newspaper delivery in central PA.
It was not a question of if there would be a close shot at a deer but when and how many.

It was almost like sport, but not so much fun.

Because I was expecting it at nearly every moment I never had any impact or even so close that I was freeked. Lots of passes within 2 or 3 van lengths though.

I also would see lots of rabbits, cats and mice.

The really scary thing was coming up on an unlighted Amish buggy.

Last week I had a doe jump out at me as I was driving home. I saw in time to swerve to miss it, but she hit me on the back side. She ran away and there was no damage, but it definitely woke me up for the rest of the drive!:buggy:

I thought pulling a cobaltbabe was when you get so drunk you can't see anymore..
