It does, but it’s called white rust, or just oxidation.
Incorrect, rust is specifically iron oxide. That was the point of my point. You are conflating the general phenomena of oxidation with the specific phenomena, rusting which is the oxidation of materials containing iron.

That said, there is white rust. Which is a white chalky substance that can form on the surface of zinc materials, like galvanized steel. It has no relationship to aluminum oxide.
