Thanks for the explanation Dave. I knew there was a reason I liked going in September! Last year at the same time it was hot but clear every day and great diving. Two more days and I will see for myself !

Dear Sally,

Of course youi can send it as you wish, or its on my web page at www.aldora.com.

Nice information Dave and it reinforce what I experienced in the prelude to the "disaster that never happened".
I left from Norway on monday, but had to stop in London and Miami, so by the time I was leaving Miami it was tuesday afternoon and Dean was a cat 2 iirc, that was "possibly going to hit Mexico".
Having spent a lot of money already, I sure wasnt gonna be stopped that close to the destination, afterall, Dean was moving slowly.
When I got down to Cancun tuesday evening it wasnt great weather, but it was atleast hot, as opposed to here.
I went diving wednesday morning. Due to wind, waves and other conditions, the night dive I hoped for didnt happen. Thursday I was diving in Chak Mool and during the day the weather got better. Friday when I was in Cozumel and especially saturday, when I went to say hello to the whale sharks, people where starting to prepare for the hurricane which definetly didnt make the weather horrible those two days.
Some of the people I met that lived down there where actually more concerned about wether or not people would start plundering IF there where to happen any damage to their homes. It was just "buisness as usual", pack down the gear, secure the boat and wait for it all to blow over.
The medias take on it was of course "everyone flee, youre going to die if you stay there!!"
Well, I didnt stay as my plane was already scheduled to leave sunday afternoon and there where some chaos on the airport, but nothing like the media described.
However, the ammount of people who suddenly decided to get out of Mexico probably hurt the tourist industry much more than the big bad Dean who turned out to be kinda wuzzy, due to lost revenues..

The only ones I saw being chastised in here were those who either were coming in or not wanting to leave when Dean was a cat 4 storm and only a couple of days from landfall.

Correct.. No post I saw said anything about people coming down a week before any kind of threat.. or even 5 days before.. it was the people that literally showed up as they were boarding up the island and the ones that didn't want to leave.

Even the Aldora Villas had a couple show up as they were boarding up and shutting down the villa. There was no option to stay there during the storm past Sunday, however, I appreciate the way Aldora does accomodate people that wish to return with diving after the storm.
