I pulled the boat out at Ocean Isle this weekend and secured any potential projectiles (chairs, tables, trash cans, etc...) We left Monday (not because of the storm, we planned to leave Monday anyway) and I hope everything turns out Ok. The insurance is paid, so what more can you do? Now I'm back in Greenville where I expect the effects of the storm will be much less than what is felt at the coast. I was amazed at the number of boats still in the canals that had only a single bow and stern line - some of which were not even tied particularly well.

I hope everyone in Wilmington, Morehead, and other points along the coast makes it through without any major problems.

So far a quiet night in Carteret County. Just a little breeze in the tree tops. The biggest commotion is Skip Waters ranting on channel 12.

So far so good here in Wilmington. Hey, I'm online at 11pm... so that means we still have power (I expect to be in the dark in a few hours). Wilmington's never been much for keeping power in winds over 35 mph.

Tied off both the dive boat & the personal boat this weekend. Took in the hammocks off the front porch, pulled out the box of candles, filled the jugs of water, picked up bottled water, extra food, and the hurricane drink of choice RUM.

Now we wait.
My father's further down in Ft. Fisher beachfront @ Ocean Dunes... so I'm concerned about him too. They closed the Snows Cut Bridge at 8pm. Still no manditory evacs anywhere.

At work they keep saying "We're open until further notice. You can use a vacation day or sick day, but attendence is required if we're open." In the same e-mail it says "Your safety is our first concern." Talk about a contradiction... but hey... they have generators. AC at work if no power at home? I'm workin'.

How's everyone else fairing?

The boats are hauled out, the loose stuff is tied down, the generator is on the porch and the ice chest is full of beer and other necessities like Capt Morgans and Coca-colas. Obviously we've still got power but who knows how long. Looks like the eye is supposed to pass right over MHC and me...

I did just run up the street and look at the dock and she's still there, but white caps bustin along the seawall... Maybe this storm will take these NE winds we've had for the last 2 weeks with it when it passes so we can get back in the water this weekend.

Hunkered down in Beaufort - Coop

worst seems to have passed in Wilmington, intermittent loss of power, have everything right now thank God....hopefully this thing is going to move on out. Looks like the folks up on the Crystal Coast will get the NE quadrant, so y'all hang in there up there....so far it doesn't appear to have been devastating here.

i think i saw the sportsmans pier on atlantic beach floating out to sea on the news this morning.

hope you are all doing well down there.

We are still standing by in Nags Head awaiting the storm. Looks like it may miss us for the most part. Right now my job consists of staring at an anommeter so I'm going a bit stir crazy! Couple of gusts above 50 so far.
