I need a vacation. Fortunately, one is coming up.

We will be on Caye Caulker Feb 14-22, then at Huracan Feb 22-March1. On Caye Caulker, we will stay very close to The Split. It has been two years since my last dive (Cozumel) so I'd like to find a dive shop there for a refresher dive or two before heading to Huracan. Heck....Downtown Caulker is like 1 mile from a reef. Nothing fancy, just a shakedown dive or two (or 3 or 4 or 5....) to reacquaint myself with the gear. Any suggestions for a dive shop? Any suggestions for restaurants?

Not much to ask about Huracan. Great reputation. Great food. Great reef. Great Blue Hole. Isolation.... Quiet......

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Jim

I've been to Huracan twice now and absolutely love diving with them. A little spendy, but the quick access to dive sites, friendly staff, great food and fishing opportunities make it worth it.
I've stayed on Caye Caulker, but didn't dive because the wife wasn't feeling well. Also dove in San Pedro (Ramons village resort diving) which was nice diving which included a amazing encounter with 3 dolphins swimming around us at 40ft. :)

Port Angeles!

I have yet to see a dolphin.
430 dives and that was my first dolphin encounter (other than being escorted by them on a boat). Amazing that they swam all around us! :)
Have you dove in WA? I haven't because I don't like cold water. Did our initial cert training in Auburn, but our initial open water dives were in Costa Rica.

I'm glad you asked that. I certified in Puget Sound in 2022 at 65 years of age. Water temperature was 45 degrees. Air was colder than that. Dove Cozumel a month later, about 2 dozen dives. That, and the dives I did before I was certified (wink wink) are my only experience.

I have no intention of diving in cold water ever again as long as I live and I am SURE looking forward to 83 degree water and air in nine days. Yes I am counting.

Next year Raja Ampat, I think.
