Perhaps I just wasn't used to it.

yes that's an issue of getting used to it. You can carry 2 AL80 slung on the left and you do not really notice them. It's just a matter of getting used to it. Al30 is nothing - you do not even notice it in the water. do not want to sound rough but it looks you are looking for a solution for a problem that does not exist :)

My understanding is higher pressure will make the tank smaller thus more dense overall. So it will be more negatively buoyant. Which will cause less comfort and will be at those characteristics as a part of your ballast which is not good with the pony.
