I was looking on line at this site :
Scuba Tanks-Diver Emporium -
and you will see that under the HP steel tanks that they list for sale they say that they are NOT RECOMMENDED for NTROX. Why? Is it because of the old argument of 'Your LDS might not be able to fill to 3500.' or is there something else?

I don't know the reasoning behind what they're saying. There is no problem filling HP tanks with nitrox; we do it frequently without anything going boom ;)

gotta love how they say "not recommended for nitrox" and the line below they write all tanks come nitrox ready

Most peculiar. I suggest you write them an email and ask them why not.

maybe they are just clueless?

I mean they don't give any specifics. But if HP tanks weren't reccomended for Nitrox, you'd be hearing people all over the place talking about the problems they were having. well you're not hearing that now are we?

There aren't any HP tanks currently manufactured that I'm aware of that are not recommended for Nitrox. I dive Nitrox with my HP tanks all the time.

I just read the link. Maybe it's the phosphatized interior coating.

Faber cylinders are pumped to 3600psi (or more) regularly with nitrox, with no issues. I think this is just a case of misinformed people on a website.
