This being my first full High Season, not much to compare, but others tell me the numbers are well down. It's interesting that the larger operators offer any destination you like as long as its Phi Phi. Got to fill the boat. For me with my small boat it works as I offer more choice. Still, just ticking over though........

Everyones welcome if you can find this dog gone place...:D :balloons:

Shouldn't be too terribly hard to find. Now that we've got the "where" all you have to do is tell us "when".

Be careful with inviting "everyone". You may get some of those "East Coast Folks" coming over.....

I feel for you KatDiver. If numbers are well down in Krabi it must be quite bad given that the Ao Nang high-season is very short and even in a good year after March a desolate place. Are holiday-makers actually doing things and spending money or just hanging out on the beach and eating out of 7-11?

I do apologize...
The only thing I know Kuraburi from is from a road-sign when I'm speeding between Phuket and Ranong. I'm baffled that there's someone actually having a dive business there!

Kuraburi being the closest town to Richelieu Rock...lined on one side by the densest mangrove in the country....fringed on the other by mountains covered in lush rainforest....close to kms of beautiful beach on Koh Phra Thong

Kuraburi being a place not invaded by thousands of farang and overun with western franchises....where, although we are still walking atms the transactions are conducted with more grace....where my few farang neighbours are not social misfits with impotency issues...

...yes why anyone would want visit kuraburi let alone live or run a dive business there is beyond my comprehension too

:classic:

I see prices falling for live-aboards and diving in general and worry about the long term implications. There has been some respite with fuel prices but the fairly new culture of last min cheap for you deals is worrisome.

Word is getting out that if you hang on to the very last min you can get great dive deals. Some OW courses now come with accommodation-breakfast-transport-extra fun dives-for less than 7000bht.

Business can not survive long term like this as no forward planning can be made,Profit margins get squeezed and corners start to get cut,its starts with watermelons instead of mixed fruit on the boat then eventually leads to dive equipment will be ok for another year etc etc.....

Before you know it cheap and nasty becomes the undeserved reputation for us all here in Thailand as a few are desperate to fill there boats.

There is a big difference between cost effective/good value and to cheap.

I have friends that offer quality service at a good price and yes there business is still down compared to last year ,however they will survive as they make profit enough to cover overheads, and most importantly keep the diving safe and there reputation intact for better years.

On a personal level however its great to have time to get some of those one day ill check here out dives done ..:D
