Given all the problems Thailand has been through the last few months plus the fact that the world-economy is at a low I would like to ask how life is as a Dive Pro or Shop / Boat owner in different locations in Thailand.
Phuket seems to be fairly busy with tourists but they don't seem to spend a lot of money or do things and as far as I know are equipment sales, courses, daytrips and LOB bookings all pretty meagre.
How's (dive-) tourism currently in Pattaya, Krabi, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Koh Lanta, Phi-Phi, Koh Chang, Koh Lipe, Koh Adang and Khao Lak?

Hmmmm....I think I know Kuraburi. Weather is good at least. I think I even saw 'farang' here at one point. Maybe it was you mr. Tim.

:sleigh:

When can we have a party on your boat?

Hi Bowmouth
Business here on Phuket is certainly down and the tourists that are here are not spending much money. The prices of the Liveaboards are cheaper than they were 10 years ago as the operators are offering last minute special deals in order to get some numbers up in order for the boats to go. Even with these fantastic offers some DC operators are still splicing prices even further.

Also some of the daytrip boats are cancelling due to the low numbers. This is all great for the divers coming here as they are getting such fantastic deals.

Perhaps we should all join TimA for a party on his boat :D :eyebrow:

Since you didn't ask about Kuraburi....

I do apologize...
The only thing I know Kuraburi from is from a road-sign when I'm speeding between Phuket and Ranong. I'm baffled that there's someone actually having a dive business there!

Hi Mr and Mrs Ringo!

Yes, I've noticed that prices are getting very low and that some operators start to give big commissions to agents just to get divers on their boats. Fewer people diving and lower prices can't be all that healthy for the industry...

I'm all for a party on TimA's boat. Maybe we should all just slip away for a few days and do some diving at Richelieu, Koh Bon and Tachai in the day and drink a nice cold beer and watch the stars at night...

I assume your wife is Thai and hope for you she has a good sense of humor. I'm sure you're aware that we're living in a part of the world where a gent his most precious body-part could end up becoming duck-feed in no time...

Yes we've canceled the cute Burmese girls for that very reason.

Just think of it..."The Mariana Trench Preservation Party"

Everyones welcome if you can find this dog gone place...:D :balloons:
