I just don't log dives
Judging by the ash on my rig this morning, and in the air at present... I mean, it has to be landing in the ocean, too.

I can only imagine it will make for poorer viz this weekend.

Prayers to my buddies in the IE. I beat on Fontukey and the 909 all the time, but this isn't funny anymore. People are losing their homes out there.

Man - tough weekend.

Actually, yesterday was fine out here -- viz 40+ in the reserve near Big Fisherman cove, just gorgeous. No smoke, just haze.

We could smell the smoke this morning, though -- it is hazy and there are small ash particles in the air and on my gear. I did not go in this morning, but I understand there is a film on the water...probably more of the ash.

I wonder how this affects air quality in the tanks, if one were to use a compressor today?

Today is better than yesterday.... looking outside it's like a normal partial overcast day. Yesterday, you could look directly at the sun all day and it was just an orange ball with an eerie orange glow. At the 60 and Central in Chino, viz was probably 1000ft and decreasing RAPIDLY as you moved east (I didn't go beyond Mountain).
Blue sky in Walnut.

It's still "snowing" though.

The worst fire season since '93. Wish I was in Catalina. May have to pump up the zod and do an early morning trip next weekend.

Yup... buddy's neighbor just bought a 38' Whaler. We've had it out to Catalina a couple of times for shakedown... next weekend we're going to run it out to SBI and get some more bugs.

I have to skip like a rock in my 15fter. The 40 has the power but the back has the pain...

There were some fires in Monterey this weekend. Saturday you could taste the smoke in the water.

Ash falling here in Avalon and the skies were largely overcast with smoke. During surface intervals my black SCUBA gear looked like someone had shaken a salt shaker on it while I was topside. Air inside my tank tasted sweet- much better than yesterday when three golf carts were parkied up against the air trailer with their engines running. The air in my tank tasted like oil and gas fumes so I called the dive early. Other tanks weren't affected since mine was being filled solo.

Don't think there's any relation to the fire, but the current was RIPPING in the Dive Park in the early AM and just after Noon. Died down by my second dive though.

Whaler makes a 38'?
Oops... 35 plus swim step.
350 Defiance. The cabin is pretty tight (does have a nicer head and shower than my buddy's Bayliner), but in typical Whaler fashion, the deck is effing HUGE with a door to the swimstep.
Big enough for two divers to completely suit up while the third guy fishes for Calico.
Twin Diesel, and does an EASY 25kt... it's nearly as fast as my buddy's Revenge 22.
