That fold trick doesn't work if you use vinyl coated bullet weights. Weight keepers are the solution then.

I would recommend getting metal weight keepers as the plastic ones can break due to sun fatigue or if you drop the belt the wrong way.

If you use the traditional 2 slot weights then the folding trick will work. A single weight keeper at the end (non buckle side) will ensure that no weights are lost if you're doing a weightbelt roll.

I've got a number of vinyl coated weights that are just like the traditional lead weights in shape, but they aren't two pounders... they are 5 to 10 pounders. Being a big guy with sufficient bioprene, it takes a lot of weight to keep me down!

I always keep a few in my dive bag. I have been using the vinyl ones for 3 years now and have not had a problem. Only 0.99 each. When I travel I always bring my belt/SS buckle and just use the dive shops weights with my keepers.:D

With the bullet style weights, you need one on each end. With traditional weights one in the middle is fine although at that point you might as well twist.

I use a belt with three Velcro pockets on each side. I only need 6 lbs in my 7mm wetsuit so use one pocket on either side, when dry I can use all 6 pockets if needed with 2-3 lbs in each. I prefer this style belt since it holds the weight out away from your body and they don't dig in. I can't stand weights on a regular belt.

For tank diving I use an XS pocket weight belt so I can change out weight quickly for changes in configuration.

For Abalone (free) diving I go old school and put a sheet metal screw through the weight belt and into the weight. This can be changed but it takes a screwdriver. The only way I would need to change lead is if I loose weight and whats the chances of that.
