FYI: For the SMB, I make 2 bungee loops on my BP. Then I slide the SMB thru the loops.

Thanks. Thats what I was looking for! Now, what is a good solution for keeping the light tethered while I am using it so I dont accidentally drop it?
You need to be able to switch the light from hand to hand at times, so tethering it to your hand or wrist seems like a bad idea.

So you dont bolt snap it to a D-ring or something? Just rely that the bungees will hold it in place till you need it?

Hair band or bungee on your wrist.
  1. Free the light from the elastic band
  2. Turn the light on (helpful if you drop it)
  3. Unclip the boltsnap from the chest D-ring and re-clip to your wristband. (Use the hand without the band to work the snap.)
For a quick look-see, I stop after Step 2.

For dedicated night dive, I use a soft Goodman handle. Light goes on before I'm wet. (Edit: I use the Oxycheq @tbone1004 mentioned below. Secure, but easy/quick to switch hands when needed.)
What wrist band? I tried one of those wrist light holders. And lost my light within the first 5 minutes getting through a rough surf.

What wrist band?
The one you put on your wrist before the dive. Just a simple elastic hair band or length of bungee tied in a 2" diameter circle.

The light is clipped to the chest D-ring (as described in the linked video) until you want to use it. If you lose it in the surf when it's clipped to that D-ring, that's probably the least of your problems. You move it to the wrist band when you want to hold it in your hand so if you drop it during use (intentional or otherwise), it will just hang there by the boltsnap.

methods to secure SMB/reels, flashlights, etc to a BP/W or BCD setup in a way that doesnt leave them all hanging?
Knot a bungee loop around your shoulder strap. The backup light goes in there. The main light goes on a soft goodman handle.
The light on a retractor
No. Just no. Get a soft goodman handle. Or a hard one. You choose.

I don’t think anyone mentioned this, but if you need pockets on a wetsuit you can use tech shorts to have two pockets like on a drysuit.

Correct. I don't want anything to dangle. Nice and streamlined.
