yes, I do mean a line cutter.

I stopped diving with a knife very early on in my experience. Before I took my break from diving, I always carried a z-knife (line cutter) and a pair of EMS shears. I never used either on a dive that I can recall.

if you feel you need one, just place it somewhere where you don’t end up stabbing yourselves if you are going to try to place it back after use.
I'll take "Gushing Carotid at 30m" for $100 Alex.

Easy. Been doing it for years. Of course it's homemade.
There are plastic versions of these. Here is a link to an STL file if anyone with a 3D printer wants to make their own. Weight On Webbing (WoW) - Scuba Weight Holder Triglide Type by Roman_Markovtsev

so is the idea that I'd put this through the accessory's belt loop laterally (from 11:00 oclock to 05:00 in the picture), and then slot this triglid over the shoulder strap?
Interesting idea for sure.... but I'm not sure I'd be able to make it work. Well yeah, I'm sure I could somehow, but my webbing is very stiff...hence the reason I dread unthreading everything off the waist and then unthreading it out of the back plate, the re-doing everything back up again

You could get creative with some zip ties.

These are a bit hard to get on but it is WAY easier than re-threading the webbing. They are made for bungee cord attachment of the accessories (or weights) but zip ties, pop-rivets, or any other way you want to attach stuff works.

Hey, you only need it once...it is not a daily need.

How can unthreading and rethreading one side take more than 5 minutes? The buckle, maybe a weight pouch, the D-ring, the loop through the plate, and possibly a couple of snoopy loops for the backup light. Even less on the right side.

Make a Velcro loop strap.

If it's not permanently connected (threaded), it will eventually find a way to get out. The only thing I use temporary attachments for are trimming weights while I look for their final position. Everything else is threaded for me.
