Does anyone know how to adjust the second stage on a mares MR12 Axis? Other regulators can be adjusted by disconnecting the hose and screwing in or out the seat. On the MR12 when the hose is disconnected there is a white tube on the hose which acts as the seat of the valve. There is an access hole on the opposite side of the second stage that when removed I can see a teflon locking nut. I suspect that tightening on the nut will increase spring pressure on the seat valve. Any help with this is appreciated.

Thanks,

Partly right, party wrong. You adjust it through the locknut, but tighten it to pull the cone away from the seat and thus decrease breathing resistance. Loosen it and the seat presses harder against the cone.
It is a little bit of a pain in the but if you don't have a custom ground socket that fits. (6mm I believe)

Thanks, I think it is a pretty good design. This way you don't have to keep removing the hose and adjust. I just had it repaired and the breathing resistance seems kind of high. I don't want to send it back for a turn of the screw.

it is a good design. If youhave the right tool you can adjust it all in one shot while the reg is on. No messing about with hoses.

the "she'll be right mate" way without the correct tools out on the boat in in the jungle, is to very slightly bend the lever. Beware you could really mess it up and make it worse.

The "more prudent" way is to go to your LDS and say, "can you help me adjust this?" they will almost certainly have the tool.

To test the breathing resistance in a more measurable way, place the second stage mouthpiece up in a sink of water, and slowly lower it. The reg should start to freeflow when the reg is about 2.5 cm deep, or less than halfway up the bit that the mouthpiece is attached to.
