I got this dive report from one of the dive clubs I belong to:

I thought that a few weeks back when we did a triple wreck dive to the U-Boat and Lightburne, that it could
not get any better than that. I was wrong...

The plan was to head to the Grecian today but the marine forecast changed slightly so I thought it best to
head to the U-Boat, and boy am I glad that we did. Geoff, Angelo and myself hooked up at 7 AM at the Gallilee
boat launch to head out to Block. Seas were a little choppy on the way out but nothing that was a cause
for concern. We arrived at the U-Boat dive site to find that we were the only ones there. I went down first
to secure a safety line and to my amazement, 40 foot of visibility! This was twice the best visibility that I
have ever gotten on the U-Boat. I just could not believe my eyes. The whole boat just opened up and you
could get a real understanding of it.

During our surface interval we got visited by our first pod of dolphin. They were marvelous to watch and
enjoy. At this time the Sea Turtle out of Montauk showed up with a bunch of divers and they dropped down
on the wreck. We had 25 to 30 foot of visibility on the second dive as the new group of divers disturbed the
site a little bit but it was still better than I ever experienced before. As we were gearing down after the second
dive a second pod of dolphins came in and graced out presence. Wow!

Our third dive was on the Lightburne. We met Brian and a friend of his on the dive site and it was an
enjoyable 1 hour decompression dive. Visibility was 20 feet and there was quite a few blackfish on the
site. The views of the southern bluffs of Block Island just ended the day very nicely.

Thanks guys for coming out!

I couldn't go because I don't think I'm up to a boat ladder climb yet. :(

Down here in Florida, we complain about 40' being crappy vis. We are spoiled and expect a minimum of 100'.

I totally understand someone being excited about 40 feet of viz, and I also understand the comment that one could get a real understanding of the wreck. For a number of our local sites, I didn't really know what the site looked like until we got a magic viz day and I could see more than ten feet of it.

When 5'-10' is average vis 40' is a delight! We got an apology in NC for 30' vis! :)

I've never had the chance to see the U853 under those conditions...someday, someday.

Wow.....that does sound amazing! I remember diving wetherill with >20' vis...I still remember it being the best dive in RI for me. Even bagged a lobster.

I wasn't referring to only the vis. How about the 2 pods of dolphins?! Dolphins are a rare sight here in RI!

Sounds awesome.... I was all pissed you didn't call me up for the dive, and then saw that you sat it out too. Bummer.

Diving this weekend? Call me.

A month or so ago I was diving USS Bass and I swear we had at least ~50-60ft of visibility. It was quite possibility the best visibility I have ever seen in RI. Easily one of my top dives in NE of 2013. Everyone came back on the boat gleaming with excitement from the visibility.

At ~80fsw descending I could clearly make out the entire super structure of the wreck and see everyone's strobes on the mooring.

A few weeks prior to that we were on the U-853 and had typical 10-15ft of visibility.
