Someone gave me a pair of tanks today. The last inspection date on them is 1999. Are they slavageable?

Sounds like they need a hydro and a visual. They might be just fine.

I have 2 steel tanks from the early 70's. Just passed Hydro and look inside like new ;)
It depends how the tanks were stored.
Let your Hydro station take a look at them ;) If they were free, than even if only one would pass it would be still very good price for a tank.

1999? Why they are just babies. I have tanks here that originate from the late 60's and early 70's. I keep them mostly as spares for visitors since they are all yoke and I dive DIN. Even my DIN tanks aren't "spring chickens."

Definitely get them hydro'ed and find out. Here they don't charge you if a tank fails hydro.

Definately not, they need to be removed from circulation. Please package them and send to me, FedEx overnight will do.........

I see that you are located in Ft Lauderdale. I have been running in to problems getting my tanks filled down there if the are older than an original hydro of 87. I got turned away two weekends ago. It seems that this is a new policy that is being adopted down there from Pompano to the Keys. At least the dive shops I have been going to. It is only a matter of time before this catches on so If you are looking to buy tanks older than 87...don't be surprised when they say they wont fill them even with a current Hydro and Vis.

Maintained ... Steel Tanks have a design life of infinate tank cyles, aluminums are design for 100,000 cycles...One issue that has come up with certain lots of Aluminum tanks ... small cracks occurring at the tank neck...a potentally dangerous scenario...These cracks can be determined with Visual + VIP's. Eddy current checks are done to the tank...a small electrical current is passed thru the tank...if cracks are present, a higher resistance occurs.

I have a couple of al80's with j valves with a build date of 1965, we still use them, if you run into any problem getting them filled after hydro, send them up north to us!!! sorry shaka!!!!

Thank you all for the information. I will get them hydro'd and visually inspected. Hopefully they'll be good.

Shaka how generous of you to offer to take care of the tanks for me:blink:
