How many scuba divers are there?

Assume they (the agencies) are counting low. Lets just say thier are actually 3 million divers. With a world ocean surface area of 361 million square kilometers, all of the 3 million divers combined will likely get to see less than 1% of the total area in thier entire lifetime. So it really doesnt matter much, how many of us thier are.

The agencies aren't the final authority on who dives either, there are plenty of folks who dive regularly and were/are not certified with any of the recognized agencies. How would you even begin to count them?

I agree Walter. The first DEMA I went to in 2000..there were only 18,000 in attendance. They thought that was a lot...when really that's very low compared to some travel shows I have been too.

I still think divers are an elite group..and I'm happy to be part of it. :winky:

That's Broward County. It only includes divers certified to penetrate wrecks at 200+ feet during hurricanes.
