Hopefully more people will sign up. The class is at Gilboa, Ohio. It is on Friday June 1 through Sunday June 3.

i dived gilboa once... i thought it was cool but then again it was my 1st set of dives after my OW lol

Water temperature looked prettty colllld at 40 to 60 ft. I hope my 5/7 mm hyperstretch and core warmer will work. I don't know if I will be comfortable enough with my drysuit by June to give it a try.

Go read my post here. Ignore the stuff that's at the top, and the part about the pushoff since GUE Fundies doesn't do a pushoff.

As Rainer said, if you can do a 90sec breath hold, you're doing better than most can ever hope to achieve. Most people start getting the urge to breathe after 15-20 secs. If you're fit, or do a lot of anaerobix exercise, it'll probably start coming at 20-30 secs. That's all you really need for th 20m swim.

Everyone has already offered sound advice - basically, work up to it.

When preparing for a underwater hockey game, I'll do a couple of dry breath holds after hyperventilating, then do 4 or 5 underwater without moving (deep breath, and hold myself underwater by pushing down on the edge of the pool). Then in a 25m pool, swim 12m freestyle, 12m underwater for 2 or 3 laps (or is that lengths :) ) with as little break in between as possible. If you don't make the distance, just swim to the wall and go again. After that, take a 5 min rest and it should be a heap easier.

You can also try doing these training or warmup swims with fins.

This won't take you too long. Do a breaststroke underwater and just keep at it. Frog kick, pull, frog kick, pull. Everytime you come up short, try to do 'one more stroke' the next time until you get that, then repeat. Remember also to never hyperventilate. No worries mate. If I can do it (and I sure as hell can't hold my breath for 90 seconds), then you can do it. Just work on your technique with the stroke. Being relaxed is key too.

^^ Shallow water blackout, anyone?

The ^^ means I'm addressing the post two posts above mine--thus, asking froop about his hyperventilation habits. ;) I completely agree--never ever hyperventilate, no matter the number of breaths.

Ohh, haha. :D

I just tried holding my breath and I found out I can hold my breath for 80 seconds. I was gonna hold it more but I felt like i was gonna pass out. :rofl3:

NAUI 1993(male), no push off, start swimming, hope i can make it.... one lap (down and back. MADE IT!!!

NAUI 1993(female), push off if you like. 1/2 lap(or close enough), came up, take a breath(no big deal), almost made it to the end(not quiet), YOU PASS!

just how it went for the swim test with me and my wife.
