Hey thanks for the replies.

We just finished our second day of diving, 5 dives, of which one had some nasty currents, and we felt good in all of them.

A "check dive" was mandatory and we were wanting nothing more than to get in some easy place and mosey around, so that fit the bill perfectly. It did take more than a day to get all of our gear exactly the way we wanted it. On the first dive, we were ready to go down and I pressed the wrong button at first! Sheesh.

One thing we found is that, although we had some minor gear issues, our buoyancy was still fine. I guess that part is like riding a bike -- it becomes part of you and nearly immediately comes right back.

I’m glad to hear it went well! I am slowly counting down the end of my SI...only 4 more weeks to go. I powered up my computer the other day to change the next dive log # that gets logged on my computer and it said I was at 100 days since my last dive. Clearly, that is 100 days too many.

Was the diving as good as you expected it to be Bill ?

It's been about 3 weeks since I last splashed and I can't wait to jump back into the cold, murky PNW water

Since you ask...

Subjectively now, I would say kinda not as great as we had hoped. But definitely some of this is "us", not the diving per se. First of all, they do not have 6L pony tanks, which I like to use on every dive because I am a big gasser. (Blame me). The boat takes you out for two morning dives, thus I get to use my pony on one of them, the other one is a 15L tank - no nitrox on 15L tanks, so ... yeah... we ran up against our NDL limits a few times already. (Blame us).

The boat is a large wooden one, I'd estimate 50 feet long?, and it is very rocky in currents -- OK for me, but not so great for Emily as she suffers from seasickness very easily (blame us). So far, so good though. No tenders and the big boat gets you after the dives.

The diving quality is quite good, most of the reefs are very nice with all the usual Indo critters. Lots of reef sharks, mostly back and white tips. On Castle Rock we saw maybe 20 sharks? It was quite a show. OK, maybe it was 10 or 12 making the rounds, hard to say.

We also did Shotgun today, which we had done in January from Mermaid II. Truthfully -- and again, subjectively - the DM made *us* nervous! He just has a manner underwater than sends out worrisome vibes. That really affected me, I was really anxious on Shotgun (last year I loved it!). Nice guy on the surface though.

We did another dive today in N. Komodo and it was so f'ing crowded we just thumbed the dive. I saw a guy run smack into a 4 foot diameter table coral. Nice reef though.

Tell you what though - they have the best food here of any resort or LOB that I have been on! Lots of Italian, lots of choices (also Thai but who would want that when you can have Italian :bounce: ). Good wine, too.

Finally, it seems that the fashion among young Chinese women underwater is (get this!) bathing suit of neoprene, white neoprene leggings reaching to mid-thigh, with white fins and a "kitty" hood. So ... what, then, is exposed, you ask? :eyebrow: I wish I got my wife to take a photo! :banghead:

I can't guess. Their calves?

Glad you liked the food but I'm not getting the impression that this is going to be one of your favourite trips.

I guess it's kind of a thing in Asia. Does this count as porn?

Is that what you mean Bill? I thought it was leggings from waist to mid thigh not from foot to mid thigh. Omg
