How long is the average wait for regulator service? I bought a used set of regs. I wanted them to be looked over and make sure they where ok to dive with. I'm a little impatient at times. Is a month to long?

Do you know if the shop is having trouble getting parts or something else beyond their control? If not, a month is about 28 days too long. It doesn't take that long to service a reg.

No, They have all the parts needed. Was suppose to be ready last week. Promise! No phone call. Went in Tuesday of this week and asked for my stuff. Its not ready, he hasn't started on them yet, what kind where they? Don't know where they are? That was all from the owner. Well today they are finally done. What is a normal inspection cost?

Specifically what kind of servicing was the shop supposed to do?
A cursory check of the i.p., cracking pressure, and leak check should only take a few minutes.
Complete overhaul is more time consuming.
In either case, one month is too long for reg servicing.

I suppose that the shop might be so back-logged with reg servicing appointments that the tech can't get around to looking at your used reg for a few weeks. If that's the case, I would be much more understanding.

[Edited later: I just saw your follow-up post. I think you should have inquired about the exact cost of inspection prior to asking the shop to work on your reg. The cost of complete reg overhauls (one first stage + two second stages) can vary widely from $50-$125, excluding parts. The cost of a cursory inspection can range from free to $30. If any parts require replacement, that will cost extra.
By the way, in my opinion, you've received pretty poor customer service. You should consider patronizing a different dive shop.]

about an hour per stage, maybe a bit less if he's not that into the movie on tv...but that's just my tech, who's also my bf...

there's usually some pre-arranged time for techs to pick up if the shop doesn't have one always in-house, like every saturday or something, and then they bring them back the next saturday. but i'm sure that differs shop to shop, and sometimes the techs have other stuff to do like go on dive trips, and sometimes the shop didn't order the rebuild kits...but yeah, a month is too long.

Babyduck has an exceptional tech, he takes his time. :)
At least for a major shop here in the area, a week is about their normal turn around time, not because it takes that long but rather you are that far back in the cue. A good tech can do a reg in an hour or 2. A lot of shops don't have a full time tech, so he may only come in once or twice a week/month and some ship the regs out for service. A lot goes into the time it takes to get a reg back. Not all reasons are good ones from a customer perspective but from a shop business (cost) perspective they may feel they are justified......just another reason I learned to do my own service.

Well it was suppose to be a check only. The shop has only one tech and he's pretty busy. He's is a real good tech. Just don't tell me it will be ready on a certain day and don't call to let me know its not.

I knew an round about price before I dropped them off.

I completely agree with you, don't promise me something and then don't do your absolute best to deliver. For a simple operational check, a good customer oriented shop would do it then and there with you watching, it takes all of 5 minutes. And as Zung has pointed out, it's nothing you can't do yourself. The only thing I would add to couvs list for an unknown reg would be to remove the covers on the second stages just to see how clean they are inside. On most regs you can do that by simply screwing off the cover.
