I just purchased two AL 80 that have been stored around 14 years with gas. Both tanks had around 2500lb when I hooked up my regular. No smell and no taste what so ever. Will I dive with these before they are inspected and refilled, no. But the air does seem fine.
I have tasted bad air or at least bad tasting air before and in tanks that had only been filled a couple of months. I think it has more to do with how good the air was when it went in rather than storage.
