I need a sound board and you guys are the best so here goes.

I am in my mid 40's, good health and exercise regularly. I have been diving for 3 years now, 40+ dives under my belt. I am PADI certified Advanced, and have Nitrox cert as well.

My job has me traveling alone to Asia 4-5 times a year. On the way back from these week long trips I take a second week (they pay for the flights and are happy to do so) and I stop in the Pacific to do some diving. So far I have gone to Guam, Palau and now Yap in 2 weeks.

I dive with established dive shops with a guide and NEVER alone.
I will pair up with a buddy once I get there. It has been great with no issues. This really the only time that I can dive as my family (wife and 3 kids) do not dive.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks all, Dave P

Why would you think you're doing anything wrong? Sounds OK to me. I don't like or trust insta-buddies, but most people do.

I hear you Pants regarding the insta-buddies.

Sometimes in life you need to reexamine what you are doing just make sure that you haven't gone over the edge!

On a footnote, I use all of my own equipment when diving and I stay close to the group and don't wonder off. I have met some terrific people from all over the world doing this. Diving makes me anxcious to go on these otherwise mundane trips.

YES! You are making me green with envy! Seriously though I don't see anything wrong there.

ScubaThor:
Yeah, you're making me very jealous! Do you bring your own gear on your Asian trips?
T

yea, I have everything and I pack it in a 62 cubic inch travel duffle.
I weigh in at 65 lbs on the scale. Al I need are a tank and weights

Like Pants, I'm just curious... Why in the world do you think there's anything wrong with that, to the extent that you need reassurance like this?

Because I do it alone. Most everyone that I have met go on trips like this with either a spouse or as a group. I truly have a unique situation.
