18.4 miles - to the parking lot at the airport. :)

About 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours, depending on the site. Probably the farthest I've driven has been 8 hours to northern ME. And it's 20 minutes to the airport ;).

The closest is an hour drive to Big Cliff reservoir, but that is only good in the summer, and even then water temps can be below 40. The water feeding Big Cliff comes from the bottom of 200 to 300ft deep Detroit Reservoir.

To dive saltwater it is a minimum 3 hour drive from Salem, either to the Oregon coast or to the better diving in the South Puget Sound of Washington state, near Tacoma. Anything on the other side of Seattle is more like 4 hours.

Two hours each way to Monterey or six each way to so. cal. (well five if i go to santa barbara). Monterey dives start at 6:00 am to 9:00 am and are a day trip. So. cal are always overnights.

30-45mins to various shore dives, same to get to a LDS's boat. I have 2 stores within a 15min drive.

In Perth, Western Australia though :)

Good gosh. I was about to say 20 minutes to the most popular local beach site. Then I thought about 5 minutes to my boat plus 20 minutes to the ocean. Then I looked at my log book. This year I've dived Hawaii so often that my most common dive site is 10 minutes to the airport and 5 hours fly time.

So there are only a couple as insane as me? At least there are a couple! ;0)

I've got diving within about 15-20 minutes away from where I live, but the best stuff is usually around 2.5 to 3.5 hours away. Almost every weekend during the summer.....

5min maximum from when i start my car, to when i exit. By the way, i live on a island thats 20mi long by 12 something wide.
