i have a pair of SP Jet fins, and i want to get spring straps for them...

looking at the straps that come with the fins, looks like they're welded on there!

anyone have any tips for removing them?

They are welded on Andy. You need a dremel or some type of file. The things they never tell you about the dark side :D

ok... i know i am not following you, because there is no way i could cut
through metal that thick with side-cutters

yes, that's what i've heard, and i've been trying like the dickens...

put i can't get the thing to pop

must be my technique

Andy, I know I am going to be crucified for this, but the second hand jets I bought when I was fourteen for $12, have had the normal straps replaced once and are still in use. They have over 20 years use and between 5-10,000 dives on them and in my learned opinion, I do not consider $100 for the spring straps worth it for avioding this particular failure point.

I guess if you are a rich lawyer and have money to burn... well...

.

JMHO..

well... i was thinking more for ease of wearing/removing. the straps are hard
for me to snap and put on before getting in the water.

but good point...

Me either, so I made my own for about $20. I'm not worried about failure, but spring straps are much easier for me to put on.

If you look at the buckle, you'll see that the pin has been punched on the top and bottom to mushroom it so it can't slip off. If you file that "mushroom" off (a Dremel will do it fast) so the pin is flush with the buckle, it'll pop right out.

that sounds like a winner
