How do I keep my male dive buddy from taking over the dive?

Great to hear things are shaking out well. Hopefully the more experience he gets, the calmer and more controlled (versus controlling) he will become!

I will agree that it is a great way to get someones attention but if they are not ready it can be a really bad experience.
If you are doing a DM (or instructor) course and at any time this happens to you and you don't deal with it in a calm, controlled, safe manner you are definitely not ready to be a Dive Master on your own.

Thanks to all the good advice, my dive buddy is being a buddy again. I had him sit next to me and read the comments and suggestions after I had a talk with him the week before we went to Florida. He is assisting at OW checkouts this weekend and is going to work on assisting ONLY when needed and work on confidence building.

Glad that SB was, in some small way, able to help you get your dive bud back. Congrants! :thumb:
