How did you get into scuba?

totally by accident, was gettin a lift to work from a friend and he wanted to check out a windsurfing store, i just went along cos it was on the way to work, we walked past the windsurf store and into the dive store by mistake (they're right next door).

My friend fell for the sales pitch on the OW course, I wasn't remotely interested till he said- go on- I'll pay your deposit...

6 years later, we're both instructors!!

I've always wanted to do it, but just never seemed to get around to it. Then, I started dating a diver. She purchased a certification course for me for Christmas, and I've been hooked ever since..., on the diving, I mean. It's the most fun I've ever had in rubber!!! :-D

Caught the bug while working for an underwater film company in Vancouver, BC. Did my first couple of checkouts off Quadra Island and finished the course on the Sea Fever in the Bahamas in August of '92. Got to spend Hurricane Andrew on the Sea Fever in the Miami River with the owner and crew. Hired on as cook and spent the next four years diving almost daily. Got my DM and began leading dives when I wasn't shooting video or cooking. It was a lot of work but so much fun. The best part was, I met my husband on that boat!

Is Vancouver divable in winter? I'm going to be visiting my inlaws of the Christmas holidays. Should we pack drysuits? I hate to miss a dive opportunity with baby sitters around!

It’s been in my mind since I was young. I still like to see underwater life in TV and think “How does it feel to be there?” a friend of mine started diving 4 years ago, He tried to convince me to join a Diving course so I can dive with him. It was kind of expensive back then and it’s hard for me to organize classis with my work. Suddenly I opened my E-mail one day and found that my company is arranging a diving course with a special price for the staff, "COOOOL" so I joined ^.^

Now I finished all the required dives for certification and left only with the final written exam on Friday.

My uncle was a marine biologist and he .... uhm ... convinced me to try it. I was hooked from the first moment, which was lucky because I didn't really have a choice.

Diving with my uncle was slow though. You have no idea how long nudibranch sex takes....

I was a computer department supervisor for Sikorsky Aircraft out of Troy, Alabama (SSSI). Our helicopter crash-rescue fire-brigade was made up of union folks, and one day they struck and decided they would no longer respond to incidents unless they were granted additional hazard pay in addition to thier regular wages.

In response, our plant commander called all the reasonably fit salaried supervisors and managers into his office and informed us we were the new crash-rescue fire-brigade, effective immediately and we shipped out Monday to the Tuscaloosa fire college for our fireman certifications. After several weeks and courses at the fire college, and more soot, ash, and steam burns than I want to remember - we returned from fire-college and were told that now we start the underwater rescue/recovery section and to report to SeaDivers in Ozark to be fitted with mask, fins, and snorkels in preparation for our SCUBA certifications.

The rest is history.

Absolutely. Vancouver is at it's best in the winter.

It always looked interesting, but I was told many times that I had to be a good swimmer to take the course, so I never took the course. Last year I went to a local dive shop and asked about a discover scuba course, then this spring I did a couple of try scuba dives in the Caribbean, and I was hooked. Got certified this summer in Canada and been diving every weekend since. And I've just bought a drysuit so I can keep diving as long as possible!

Oh, and I did this all on my own because everyone else I know thinks I'm nuts to want to dive!

I got into diving by getting married - my wife took scuba for PE credit in college, then took her AOW right before we started dating. On our big vacation trip the second year after we were married I tried a 'resort course', got certified on vacation the next year, and we take at least one dive trip per year since. It's been great! It's a hobby for us and so we really enjoy getting away from our regular workaday lives on a vacation to warm lands with clear salt water.

I grew up on the Gulf Coast and was always interested in it but was age 35 before I ever found / made the opportunity to try it. But that's fine as I figure I have plenty of time left to enjoy it.
