What happened when you woke up?

I always hated waiting around our sailing club each spring for the diver to show up. We had to remove the piers in the fall so the shifting ice wouldn't damage them, and as soon as the ice melted in the spring we would all gather to reinstall the docks. To get the pier supports set properly we needed a diver in the water.
We always ended up wasting what seemed like two or three perfectly good weekends of sailing because the docks weren't put back together yet. I figured that if I learned to dive I could jump right in three days after the ice melted and get to work. What could possibly be so hard about that?

My wife got tired of picking me up at the E.R. after I'd injure myself playing basketball ... and told me to find a safer pastime. So I decided to try scuba diving.

Did a try dive in the Dominican Republic and saw one fish during the dive. Just the one. It was a Manta Ray. 
Left it alone for a year, until it started to itch, went on holiday to Egypt and did my OWD. BTW, the instructor that taught the course is still my role model. Thanks Hichem!
Finished the course and decided there and then that I wanted to become an instructor.
Went back home and took a dive. Whew! Almost quit diving altogether. Cold, dark and scary.
Persevered and guess what? I made instructor and have been teaching for some years now.

Tried snorkeling in the Bahamas on our first ever real vacation. A couple years later we decided to go to Cozumel to snorkel. Took a free pool lesson, followed by a resort course, came home, got certified and have continued my education and diving ever since.

When I was a boy I realised I was "all lungs" and could hold my breath for up to 3 minutes. Me and my buddies used to grab hold of a boulder or large rock and jump into a local rock quarry. We sank to about 20 ft and walked around the bottom until we ran out of air. I know, I know, we were young and stupid.
Even since those days, I have be fascinated with being under water.
I took up scuba diving after one of those "resort dives" and got the diving bug real bad.
Now I am AOW and going for "equipment specialist and Nitrox".
Pls note... I don't hold my breath for 3 minutes anymore (lol) ... Number 1 rule in diving...

Always wanted to; so I did.

I had to go on a business trip to Australia. I figured if I was going to spend 24 hours in planes I'd better do more than sit in a hotel conference room for a week, so I went down a week early and took OW. Liked it so much that I extended my trip for a week and did AOW.

As a kid I snorkeled in the Santiam River (OR) with Salmon that were almost as big as I was. That is some COLD water... no wetsuit there!
Growing up I spent a LOT of time on boats and in the water, mainly swimming and waterskiing.
As a College kid I spent a ton of time body surfing the Waves of the outer banks.
As an adult I've spent time snorkeling every time I've visited anywhere worth snorkeling.
Last July in FL, I spend a few days snorkeling, and announced to my wife that next time I'm somewhere tropical, I'm going to be certified as I always end up in places wishing I could do more than snorkel.
She said fine, so now I'm on my way.
So I guess I've always wanted to do it, but never did until now...
